Marketa Vondrousova appeals four-year doping ban to CAS
Marketa Vondrousova, the 2023 Wimbledon champion, has appealed her four-year suspension to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS). The ban was issued by the International Tennis Integrity Agency (ITIA) following an incident in December 2025, where Vondrousova refused an out-of-competition doping test at her home.
Vondrousova has denied using banned substances, stating she has always competed with a clear conscience. She explained that her refusal was due to being at a ‘breaking point’ from mental and physical stress, and expressed concerns for her safety when the testing officer arrived late in the evening without properly identifying themselves. An independent tribunal previously ruled that she provided ‘no compelling justification’ for the refusal.
The current suspension is set to last until June 21, 2030. CAS has confirmed receipt of the appeal, though a hearing date has not yet been scheduled. Vondrousova, formerly ranked sixth in the world, has not competed since January and has seen her ranking drop to 153.
