Marketa Vondrousova receives four-year ban after refusing doping test

Czech tennis player Marketa Vondrousova, the 2023 Wimbledon champion, was handed a four‑year suspension by the International Tennis Integrity Agency (ITIA) after she refused a doping control officer’s visit to her home in December 2025. Vondrousova said she experienced an acute stress reaction and feared for her safety when an unidentified person rang her door late at night. The ITIA said she signed a form confirming the refusal and treated the act as equivalent to a positive test, imposing the maximum penalty to deter future refusals.

Former world No. 1 Andy Roddick initially expressed sympathy for Vondrousova but later questioned her actions, noting inconsistencies in her statements about not recognizing the tester and later signing paperwork. ITIA CEO Karen Moorhouse emphasized that testers are professional, carry identification, and that unpredictable testing is essential to protect clean sport.
