Marketing leaders and founders navigate brand risk amid uncertainty
Recent research and industry analysis suggest that brands and founders are increasingly facing a dilemma between taking bold risks and maintaining caution during periods of economic and social unpredictability.
A survey of 1,000 senior marketing and communications leaders across North America, EMEA, and APAC revealed that while 88% believe bold creative drives impact, most organizations continue to produce safe work. The study found that 58% of leaders believe missing opportunities due to caution occurs more frequently than facing consequences for being bold. Furthermore, 42% of respondents reported losing market share to competitors due to hesitation, and uninspired creative work was linked to a 37% drop in brand conversion.
In economic downturns, the strategy for maintaining stability shifts toward trust and visibility. Rather than retreating behind corporate logos, founders are encouraged to strengthen personal brands to become a ‘safe choice’ for clients. During volatility, buyers tend to prioritize established trust and domain mastery over unproven corporate entities, making founder-led content a tool for maintaining client relationships when budgets are tightened.
