Markham IndyCar race overcomes initial delays to conclude successfully

The inaugural Ontario Honda Dealers Indy in Markham, Ontario, faced early logistical challenges after Friday's on-track activities were cancelled. The cancellation occurred because the street course construction was not completed or approved by safety inspectors in time for the scheduled sessions.

Jeff Atkinson, the event president, issued a late apology to fans, stating, “We know we disappointed many people who were here... and we are sorry.” Despite the initial setback, Markham Mayor Frank Scarpitti expressed pride in the event, noting that the race was ultimately a success and citing positive feedback from drivers regarding the new street course.

Sweden’s Marcus Ericsson won the race on Sunday, August 16, 2026. This event marked the first time the race was held in Markham after moving from its long-standing location at Toronto’s Exhibition Place.
