Marko Perković shares photo with godfather Marko Perković Thompson

Croatian boxer Marko Perković has shared a photograph on social media with his godfather, the well-known singer Marko Perković Thompson. The post, captioned ‘Kumovi’ (Godfathers), highlights the personal connection between the athlete and the musician.

The relationship was established by Perković’s mother, who decided before his birth that if they had a son, he would be named Marko and Thompson would serve as his godfather. The connection was facilitated through a nun in Zagreb, and Perković was christened when he was five or six years old.

Perković gained significant recognition late last year after winning a silver medal in the heavyweight category at the U-23 European Boxing Championships in Budapest. This marked his first appearance for the Croatian national boxing team. During that tournament, he defeated opponents from Turkey and Azerbaijan before falling to England’s Damar Kristoph Thomas in the final.
