Marko Đurić denies obstructing Serbian overseas voting
Serbian Foreign Minister in a technical mandate, Marko Đurić, has denied allegations that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MSP) is obstructing voting for Serbian citizens living abroad. Describing the claims as “complete lies,” Đurić stated that diplomatic and consular offices have processed nearly three times as many applications as in previous elections.
Đurić noted that the Ministry has proposed opening 90 polling stations abroad, which is approximately ten more than in 2023. He contrasted current figures with the 2012 elections, when only 6,014 voters were registered across 38 polling stations in 22 countries. He emphasized that the final decision regarding the number and distribution of polling stations rests with the Republic Electoral Commission, based on logistical, security, and personnel criteria.
The Minister also condemned the personal targeting of MSP Secretary General Dušan Kozarev and other embassy and consulate staff, labeling attempts to frame their work as “sabotage” as a political campaign based on “deceptions and untruths.”
