Marko Weibels begins role as pastoral assistant in Dorsten-Kirchhellen

Marko Weibels has begun his role as a pastoral assistant in the Dorsten-Kirchhellen pastoral area, focusing on the St. Matthäus parish, which includes Wulfen, Deuten, and Barkenberg. His work emphasizes fostering community through music, liturgy, and personal accompaniment.

Weibels, 52, transitioned to theology after a previous career in interior design and antiques. He noted that while he originally intended to become a priest, his personal life led him in a different direction. He will be officially commissioned by Bishop Dr. Heiner Wilmer at St. Paulus Cathedral in Münster on September 27, alongside 15 other pastoral assistants.

His background includes experience as a church musician and social worker. His appointment follows a 2023 policy change in the Diocese of Münster that allows individuals in same-sex partnerships to pursue pastoral professions.
