Markéta Vondroušová receives four‑year doping ban

Czech tennis champion Markéta Vondroušová, the 2023 Wimbledon winner, was handed a four‑year suspension by the International Tennis Integrity Agency (ITIA) after refusing an out‑of‑hours anti‑doping test at her Prague apartment on 3 December 2025. The test was requested outside the 60‑minute window she had previously declared, and Vondroušová sent a vulgar message to her agent, Andrew Paulson, describing the anti‑doping officer as “a stupid [person] from doping”.

The ITIA tribunal found her refusal unjustified, rejecting her claims of anxiety and safety concerns. The panel noted that while she experienced stress, she remained capable of rational decision‑making and therefore did not provide a convincing justification for the refusal. The suspension, effective 22 June 2026, bars her from competition for four years.
