Markus Howard leaves Baskonia for Zenit Saint Petersburg

American basketball player Markus Howard has departed the Spanish EuroLeague club Baskonia after four seasons to join Zenit Saint Petersburg in Russia. Howard will reunite with coach Duško Ivanović under what is reported to be a two-year contract worth approximately one million euros per season.

The departure follows a decline in Howard's offensive production and playing time. While he previously averaged 19.5 points per game in the EuroLeague, his output dropped to ten points per game last season.

According to Spanish media outlet El Korreo, the mutual termination of his contract could cost Baskonia up to two million euros in compensation. Because Howard had a valid contract for the current and following seasons, the club must pay the agreed-upon settlement amount to finalize the split.
