Markus Söder announces Bavarian cabinet reshuffle
Bavarian Minister President Markus Söder has announced a reshuffle of his cabinet following the sudden resignation of Justice Minister Georg Eisenreich. Eisenreich, who intends to pursue a new professional path, will step down at the end of September.
Josef Schmid, a Munich-based lawyer and CSU member, has been named as the successor for the Ministry of Justice. Additionally, Manuel Knoll, the head of the Junge Union in Bavaria, has been promoted to the newly created role of State Minister for Youth and Democracy. This position, based in the State Chancellery, is intended to engage younger generations more directly.
As part of the changes, European Minister Eric Beißwenger will leave the cabinet, with his responsibilities being absorbed by State Chancellery Chief Florian Herrmann. While the Young Free Voters have welcomed the inclusion of a youth representative, they have also criticized the move as a political calculation to counter the success of rival parties.
