Markus Söder seeks new political slogan for Bavaria

Bavarian Minister-President Markus Söder is attempting to establish a new political slogan to represent the state's blend of tradition and modernity. His latest proposal, ‘Radi und Rakete’ (Radio and Rocket), follows several previous attempts to update the iconic ‘Laptop and Lederhosen’ imagery popularized by former Minister-President Edmund Stoiber.

Previous attempts to modernize the state's image, such as ‘Hightech und Heimat’ (High-tech and Homeland) or ‘Tablet und Tracht’ (Tablet and Traditional Costume), failed to gain lasting traction in public discourse. While skeptics remain cautious about the new ‘Radi und Rakete’ phrasing, supporters point to the successful development of Bavarian aerospace technology as a justification for the metaphor.
