Markus Waldner to step down as FIS men's alpine ski race director

Markus Waldner has announced his decision to step down as the FIS Chief Race Director for the men's alpine ski World Cup. After serving in the role since 2014, Waldner cited the immense and accumulating pressure of the position as the primary reason for his departure.

To ensure a smooth transition, Waldner will remain in his post through the end of the 2026/27 season to assist his successor. He is also in discussions with the International Ski Federation (FIS) regarding potential new responsibilities within the organization.

During the initial part of the upcoming World Cup season, Peter Gerdol, the current Chief Race Director for the women's circuit, will oversee races for both men and women. The FIS has officially launched a search for Waldner's permanent replacement.
