Markwayne Mullin promises release of ICE bodycam footage

U.S. Secretary of Homeland Security Markwayne Mullin has pledged to release bodycam footage from ICE agents involved in a shooting in the Bronx, New York. The release will occur once investigations by the FBI and Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) are complete.

During a CBS interview, Mullin defended the federal agents' actions and stated that the driver involved, identified as Óscar Belgal, endangered his five-year-old son during the operation. Mullin noted that authorities were aware of Belgal's criminal history, which includes charges of aggravated robbery, aggravated assault, weapon possession, and drug-related offenses, as well as alleged gang ties.

While security footage released by the NYPD shows a man in civilian clothing approaching a vehicle with a drawn weapon and breaking a window, Mullin clarified that such footage lacks audio and the specific angles provided by agent bodycams. He added that officials had previously attempted to apprehend Belgal the month prior, but he had evaded them.
