Marl announces local heritage prize and new prevention council
The city of Marl has announced the opening of applications for its eighth annual ‘Heimat-Preis’ (Homeland Prize). The award, which offers a total prize pool of 5,000 euros, recognizes individuals, clubs, and initiatives that preserve local history, shape the present, or introduce innovative ways to connect with cultural heritage. Applications are being accepted until October 16, with the award ceremony scheduled for November 2026.
In a separate local development, a new volunteer-led Prevention Council has been established for the Marl-Mitte district. Part of a pilot project focused on safety, order, and cleanliness, the council aims to improve the city center through community engagement. The inaugural meeting addressed issues such as cleanliness in residential areas, vandalism, graffiti, and illegal animal feeding. Proposed solutions include regular cleanup actions, educational campaigns, and neighborhood sponsorship models for local playgrounds.
