Marl Bürgerstiftung honors Jürgen Schmeling with new street signs

The Marler Bürgerstiftung has installed new legend signs on Jürgen-Schmeling-Straße in the Riegefeld district of Marl to commemorate the 30th anniversary of the street's naming.

The signs serve to honor the life and contributions of Jürgen Schmeling, a prominent figure in the Marl community. Born in 1926, Schmeling was a theologian who served as a pastor at the Dreifaltigkeitskirche from 1958 to 1987.

Beyond his religious roles, Schmeling was a religious education teacher at local gymnasiums and a co-founder of the Evangelical City Church Community. His civic engagement included serving as a member of the Marl city council from 1975 to 1984 and acting as chairman of the cultural committee. He was also a co-founder of the Marler Gruppe, which functions as a local audience jury for the Grimme Prize.
