Marl, Germany urges colon cancer screening for near‑100% early detection

Doctors in the town of Marl say that up to three‑quarters of colon‑cancer cases could be prevented if adults aged 50 and older undergo timely colonoscopies. Dr. Iris Borchmeyer explained that a clear colonoscopy result gives patients about a 99 % certainty of being cancer‑free.

Patients are advised to drink plenty of fluid when taking the preparation medication so the intestines are fully cleared before the examination. The local health authorities highlighted these recommendations alongside announcements of a community evening market, a skate‑boarding event and other municipal activities.

The guidance aims to increase participation in the screening program and reduce the future burden of colon cancer in the region.
