Marl vehicle registration office tests walk-in service

The Marl vehicle registration office (Straßenverkehrsamt) is launching a pilot project to test services without prior appointments. On Wednesday, October 28, 2026, between 7:15 AM and 11:00 AM, the office will offer 120 slots to citizens via an on-site waiting ticket system.

The initiative aims to determine if flexible appointment scheduling can optimize administrative workflows. Office director Olaf Kleffmann stated that the department is examining various measures to improve efficiency, and this trial will assess citizen engagement with such a model.

The service is strictly limited to private individuals; commercial providers, such as car dealerships and registration services, are excluded. While longer wait times are expected due to the potential influx of people, officials guarantee that everyone who obtains a ticket will be served that day. A fast-track counter will also be available for simple tasks like de-registrations or name changes.

Applicants are advised to bring all necessary documentation, including valid identification, electronic insurance confirmation (eVB number), and vehicle papers. Payments can only be made via card, as the office will not accept cash.
