Marília earns three gold medals at JOMI 2026 in Assis
The Marília delegation opened the 28th edition of the Jogos da Melhor Idade (JOMI) in Assis with a strong performance, winning three gold medals in its first days. Golds came in Women’s 3×3 Basketball, Women’s Singles Tennis (Category C) and Men’s Doubles Tennis (Category B). Individual swimmers also stood out: Lázaro Batista captured gold in the 25‑metre backstroke and freestyle (Category E), while César Massauqui Naka won the 50‑metre backstroke and freestyle (Category C). The team placed sixth in the choreography competition and the men’s swimming squad finished third overall.
Beyond the medals, Marília athletes recorded victories in a range of other events, including female domino, malha, table tennis, truco and both genders of adapted volleyball. The municipality provided a special lodging facility with beds to improve athletes’ rest. The Games, held at the Jairão Gymnasium, run from the opening ceremony on 26 June through 1 July, when state‑phase qualifiers will be decided.
