Marília traffic accidents cost an estimated R$ 189 million

Traffic accidents in Marília, Brazil, resulted in an estimated economic cost of R$ 189.26 million between September 2025 and August 2026. Of this total, R$ 151.66 million was attributed to urban road incidents, while R$ 37.6 million was linked to accidents on highways and rural roads.

Data from Infosiga-SP and Detran-SP indicate that between January and August 2026, there were 12 traffic fatalities, a 57.1% decrease compared to the 28 deaths recorded during the same period in 2025. Despite the overall decline, motorcyclists remain the most vulnerable group, accounting for eight of the 12 deaths (66.7%) in the first eight months of 2026.

Other fatalities during this period included three pedestrians and one person in an automobile. The statistics show a male predominance, with men representing 67% of the victims. Most accidents occurred during the evening and afternoon hours, specifically between 12:00 and 00:00.
