Marlon Jackson launches docuseries to reshape Joe Jackson's legacy
Marlon Jackson is partnering with production company BLK Prime to produce an eight‑episode documentary series titled “The Manager, The Mythology, The Legend.” The series, set to debut later this year on BLK Prime, aims to portray his father, Joseph "Joe" Jackson, as a visionary manager who built the Jackson 5 and launched Janet Jackson’s career, rather than the abusive figure depicted in recent media.
The project follows the release of the biopic “Michael,” which presented Joe Jackson as a strict disciplinarian and crossed the $1 billion global box‑office mark. Marlon said he is “thrilled” to finally tell his father’s story, emphasizing that the series will offer a “distinctive and accurate portrayal” of the man behind the family’s success. The documentary will explore Joe’s early life, his ambitions, and the pressures of creating a musical dynasty, positioning him as a product of the Great Depression and Jim Crow South rather than a villain.
Marlon’s involvement as narrator adds a personal dimension, contrasting with other accounts that focus on alleged abuse. The series seeks to reshape public perception of Joe Jackson’s legacy amid renewed conversations about the Jackson family’s history.
