Marmaray suicide incidents raised in Turkish Parliament

CHP Istanbul Deputy Yüksel Mansur Kılınç has submitted parliamentary inquiries to the Ministers of Transport and Infrastructure and Health regarding suicide incidents on the Marmaray commuter rail system.

The inquiries seek statistical data on the number of suicides and attempts since Marmaray's opening, including specific station locations and the resulting service disruptions or delays caused by these events over the last five years. Kılınç specifically questioned whether the Ministry of Transport utilizes artificial intelligence-supported camera systems, behavior analysis software, or platform screen door systems to prevent such incidents.

Furthermore, the deputy requested information regarding psychological support provided to railway staff, such as drivers and security personnel, following these events. Kılınç also called upon the Ministry of Health to clarify if a National Suicide Prevention Strategy or similar coordinated action plan is in place, citing recommendations from the World Health Organization.
