Marín bar owner to face trial for assaulting disabled customer
The Provincial Court of Pontevedra will hold a trial next week against a bar owner from Marín, Spain, accused of assaulting a regular customer with an intellectual disability of over 70%.
According to the prosecution, the incident occurred in December 2023. The owner allegedly tricked the victim into a “game” of mutual slapping by claiming the winner would receive a ham. Prosecutors state the accused knew the victim could not understand the consequences of the game and exploited his vulnerability to mock him in front of other patrons.
During the encounter, the owner reportedly struck the victim with such force that the man lost his balance and fell to the ground. Witnesses in the bar allegedly participated by providing instructions on how to strike or posture for the blows. The event was recorded on video by an unidentified individual present at the scene.
