Marín Naval School begins dredging to accommodate NATO frigates

The Marín Naval School has begun a decisive phase of infrastructure works to meet NATO requirements, allowing Atlantic Alliance frigates to dock at the facility. The current stage involves dredging the military basin to achieve the necessary depth for these vessels.

A dredge, the Omvac Doce, has arrived to remove sediment, which will be deposited in a specialized settling pond before being transported to an authorized waste treatment center. This initial phase, awarded by the Ministry of Defense for approximately 1.6 million euros, also includes the reconstruction of breakwaters at the Torpedo and Cruise piers.

The Ministry of Defense aims to complete the full remodeling of the site by 2028. This project includes adapting the Cruise pier specifically to accommodate NATO medium-sized frigates.
