Marnate to host conference on fibromyalgia awareness

An awareness event regarding fibromyalgia is scheduled for October 24, 2026, in Marnate, Italy. Organized by the Associazione Italiana Sindrome Fibromialgica (AISF ODV) with support from the ASST Valle Olona and the Municipality of Marnate, the conference aims to address the medical, social, and legal dimensions of the condition.

Fibromyalgia affects between 1.5 and 2 million people in Italy, primarily women aged 40 to 60. The event will discuss updates regarding the inclusion of the pathology in the Essential Levels of Care (LEA) to ensure more uniform treatment paths. Following the conference, a dedicated bench will be inaugurated in Marnate to promote awareness of this invisible condition.

Broader discussions on invisible illnesses, such as Multiple Chemical Sensitivity (MCS) and Electromagnetic Hypersensitivity (EHS), highlight the challenges patients face with fragmented care and inconsistent media attention. While fibromyalgia is a recognized clinical condition characterized by widespread pain and fatigue, other emerging environmental sensitivities often struggle for clinical and journalistic recognition.
