Marnus Labuschagne defends position amid form scrutiny

Australian batter Marnus Labuschagne has defended his position as the national team’s best number three, despite facing intense scrutiny over a significant slump in form. Labuschagne has gone 43 innings without a century, and his recent Test average has dropped to 25.43 following a disappointing series against Bangladesh.

Labuschagne acknowledged that the criticism is performance-based and warranted, stating, “I’m not getting criticised because of me as a person; they are criticising my performance.” He expressed determination to regain his best form ahead of Australia’s upcoming Test series in South Africa.

Before joining the Test squad for the South African tour, Labuschagne will captain Queensland in the One-Day Cup, featuring matches against Victoria and New South Wales. While his inclusion in the squad is confirmed, his place in the starting XI for the first Test in Durban remains uncertain.
