Marnus Labuschagne faces selection scrutiny after Cape Town duck

Marnus Labuschagne’s Test career is under intense scrutiny following a duck during the second day of the series decider in Cape Town. While the Australian batting order performed well to reach 4-330 at stumps, Labuschagne was the sole failure, falling to South African off-spinner Simon Harmer.

The 32-year-old’s dismissal has reignited debates regarding the Australian national selectors' decision to maintain faith in him despite diminishing returns. Former Test opener Simon Katich suggested that selectors share responsibility for Labuschagne’s decline, noting that the player may have needed a break from the pressure of the Test arena.

Other Australian batsmen contributed significantly to the total, including Matthew Renshaw (74), Cameron Green (65), and Josh Inglis (85 not out). Labuschagne now faces pressure to perform in his final innings to secure his position for the upcoming home series against New Zealand.
