Maro Engel takes pole position at DTM Sachsenring
Maro Engel secured pole position for the DTM race at Sachsenring following a challenging qualifying session on a damp track. Driving for Winward Racing Mercedes, Engel recorded a time of 1:26.307, which narrowed his gap in the overall standings to just three points behind championship leader Thomas Preining.
Ricardo Feller, driving for Manthey EMA Porsche, took second place with a time of 1:26.755. Jules Gounon, Engel’s teammate at Winward Racing, secured third position. The qualifying conditions were difficult due to recent rainfall, making the track too moist for slick tires and resulting in times approximately ten seconds slower than those recorded on a dry track.
Other notable positions in the starting grid include Ben Dörr in fourth and Bastian Buus in fifth. Championship leader Thomas Preining qualified in sixth position.
