Maros aquaculture groups use digital technology for climate resilience

Deputy Minister of Communication and Digital Nezar Patria has praised the implementation of digital technology in the aquaculture sector in Maros Regency, South Sulawesi. During the opening of the Rural ICT Camp 2026 at the Marannu Silvofishery Pond Installation Unit, Patria highlighted how community-driven internet initiatives are fostering food independence and climate resilience.

Local residents are utilizing digital instruments to measure salinity and temperature, recording this information as ‘big data’ to create future projections. This data-driven approach allows fish and crab farmers to implement rapid and efficient mitigation strategies against extreme climate changes, such as prolonged droughts that affect salinity levels.

The initiative is a collaborative effort involving local residents, the Brackish Water Aquaculture Research and Fisheries Extension Center, and Common Room. Patria emphasized that the success of digital transformation at the community level should be measured by its tangible impact rather than the quantity of devices or applications used.
