Marquez Valdes-Scantling released by Los Angeles Chargers

The Los Angeles Chargers have released veteran wide receiver Marquez Valdes-Scantling. The move makes the 31-year-old a free agent, though he will not be eligible to sign with a new team until next week.

Valdes-Scantling previously played for the Pittsburgh Steelers, recording 10 catches for 80 yards and one touchdown in five games last season. His release comes at a time when the Steelers are facing significant depth issues at the wide receiver position due to injuries to Michael Pittman Jr., Roman Wilson, and Ben Skowronek.

The receiver has a long-standing professional relationship with quarterback Aaron Rodgers, having played alongside him for four seasons with the Green Bay Packers. Valdes-Scantling had expressed interest in returning to Pittsburgh earlier this offseason but pursued other opportunities, including a stint with the Dallas Cowboys, before joining the Chargers in September.
