Marquez Valdes-Scantling remains off roster for Steelers Week 7 game
The Pittsburgh Steelers will not elevate veteran wide receiver Marquez Valdes-Scantling from the practice squad for their Week 7 game against the New Orleans Saints in Paris. Despite re-signing the 31-year-old to the practice squad this week following his release from the Los Angeles Chargers, the team missed the Saturday deadline to make him eligible for Sunday's matchup.
Head coach Mike McCarthy noted that Valdes-Scantling looked good in practice and appeared to integrate quickly with the team, aided by his previous familiarity with quarterback Aaron Rodgers. The Steelers are currently facing significant depth issues at the wide receiver position, with Roman Wilson and Michael Pittman Jr. on injured reserve, and Ben Skowronek absent from the trip to France. In place of Valdes-Scantling, the team has utilized practice squad members Brandon Johnson and Brandon Smith.
