Marquis Brown sentenced to 85 years for Morgan State shooting

Marquis Brown, a 20-year-old man from Washington, D.C., has been sentenced to 85 years in prison for his involvement in the 2023 mass shooting at Morgan State University. Brown was previously convicted in May on five counts of attempted second-degree murder and related charges.

The shooting occurred on the Morgan State campus in October 2023, wounding five individuals—four men and one woman—between the ages of 18 and 22. All victims survived with non-life-threatening injuries.

Baltimore City State’s Attorney Ivan Bates stated that the sentence provides accountability and emphasized the importance of maintaining safety at the university. A second suspect, Javon “Chewy” Williams, was indicted in June 2026 in connection with the attack and has been identified as a member of the Kennedy Street Crew gang.
