Marriott Bonvoy partners with Japan Airlines in new loyalty alliance
Marriott International’s Marriott Bonvoy program and Japan Airlines’ Mileage Bank announced a reciprocal strategic partnership on July 14, 2026. The alliance expands the existing points conversion arrangement by adding status matching, mutual elite recognition and new member benefits. Marriott Bonvoy members who link their accounts will automatically receive FLY ON Points, the amount of which depends on their Marriott elite tier, while JAL Mileage Bank members will earn corresponding Marriott Bonvoy elite status based on their FLY ON membership level. Basic JAL members become eligible for Marriott Silver Elite status after meeting stay requirements, and higher‑tier JAL members receive automatic status matches and accelerated pathways to higher Marriott tiers. The partnership is the first comprehensive loyalty collaboration for Marriott with a Japanese airline and the first such alliance for JAL with a global hospitality group. John Toomey, Chief Commercial Officer for Marriott International in Asia Pacific (excluding China), said the deal creates “more rewarding journeys for our members,” and Shingo Nishida, Executive Officer of JAL’s Mileage and Lifestyle Business Division, called it “an exciting step forward in how we reward and engage our most valued customers.”
