Mars launches pet adoption resource hub following global study
Mars, Incorporated has launched the ‘Mars Adoption Hub’, a new online platform designed to provide expert guidance and resources for prospective pet adopters. The initiative follows a global study involving more than 26,000 participants across 14 countries, which identified key barriers to pet adoption.
The research revealed that while 58% of current pet owners did not adopt from a shelter, approximately 28% expressed interest in doing so if provided with adequate support. Primary concerns for potential adopters include unknown medical histories (33%), behavioral patterns (27%), and compatibility with their current household (25%).
To address these challenges, the new hub will offer practical resources and expert advice, including insights from the Waltham Petcare Science Institute. The platform also aims to assist with nutritional transitions, as 71% of adopters change their pet’s diet after leaving a shelter. This launch coincides with the expansion of the 2026 Mars Global Adoption Weekend to more than 30 countries.
