Mars study identifies key barriers to global pet adoption

A global study conducted by Mars involving over 26,000 participants across 14 countries has identified key barriers to pet adoption. The research highlights that uncertainty regarding an animal's medical history, past behavior, and ability to integrate into a new household are the primary concerns for potential owners.

Key findings include: - 33% of potential adopters worry about unknown health histories. - 27% are concerned about previous behavior. - 25% worry about how the pet will fit into their home. - 28% of respondents expressed a desire to adopt in the future if provided with better information and support.

To address these challenges, the Mars Adoption Hub online platform has been launched to provide professional advice on adoption and responsible pet care. Additionally, the study notes that approximately 362 million dogs and cats worldwide lack homes. In support of local initiatives, Mars has collaborated with shelters globally, including providing food donations and veterinary support to the Zoovita shelter in Serbia.
