Marsala aims to host 2027 Kitesurf World Cup stage

Organizers are seeking to bring a stage of the GKA Freestyle Kite World Cup to the Lo Stagnone lagoon in Marsala, Sicily, in 2027. The initiative is a joint effort between the Associazione Italiana Kitesurf and the sports club Le Vie del Vento.

To formalize the candidacy and sign the contract with the Global Kitesports Association (GKA), organizers must secure 150,000 euros in funding by the end of October. An appeal has been made to the Sicilian Region to provide institutional and economic support for the project.

The bid follows the success of the Stagnone Kite Games held in July, which hosted a national championship featuring 53 athletes and attracted approximately 6,500 spectators. Proponents argue that hosting an international event alongside destinations like Brazil, Morocco, and Greece would provide significant tourism benefits for Marsala and the wider Sicilian territory.
