Marsala and Mandriola hold funerals for local loved ones
In Marsala, Sicily, the community mourned Anna Maltese, the widow of businessman Benvenuto "Titti" Nania. Her funeral was held at the Church of Santa Venera on 27 July 2026, drawing numerous tributes that highlighted her elegance and kindness.
In the nearby coastal village of Mandriola, Carlo Sommacal gathered with friends and family to remember his late wife, marine biologist and university professor Monica Montefalcone, who died during a dive in the Maldives in May. A memorial service took place at the small San Lorenzo church, and Sommacal plans to scatter her ashes in the waters off Capo Mannu as she wished.
