Marsala Court sentences two for fraudulent bankruptcy

The Marsala Tribunal has sentenced Valentina Norrito, an entrepreneur from Mazara del Vallo, to five years in prison and Giuseppe Bonsignore, from Castelvetrano, to four years for improper fraudulent bankruptcy. The two individuals served as administrators for the company ‘Abm Commerciante Med’, which operated in oil production and administrative consultancy before declaring bankruptcy in 2021.

The court's sentences exceeded the requests made by prosecutor Sara Varazi. The ruling follows allegations that the company's collapse was intentionally caused through fraudulent operations. Specifically, investigators found that the firm was ‘unjustifiably and progressively’ burdened with tax, social security, and welfare debts, totaling over 1 million euros, along with related interest and penalties.

Additionally, the defendants were accused of failing to devalue financial assets and credits worth hundreds of thousands of euros related to companies that had already failed or were inactive. This is not the first legal issue for Norrito, who had previously received a definitive conviction for improper bankruptcy related to the ‘Giardino di Costanza’ cooperative.
