Marsala hosts “Elena of Euripides” at Villa Genna
The classical play “Elena of Euripides” will be performed at Villa Genna in Marsala on August 23 and 24. Part of the ninth edition of the “‘A Scurata” festival, the production offers a contemporary reading of the Greek tragedy directed and adapted by Nicasio Anzelmo.
The play subverts the traditional myth by suggesting that Helen never reached Troy. Instead, the war was fought over her phantom, while the real Helen remained in Egypt, innocent and faithful to Menelaus. This narrative explores themes of reality versus appearance and the power of collective belief and imagery.
The cast includes Mariano Rigillo, Anna Teresa Rossini, Silvia Siravo, Ruben Rigillo, and Alessandro D’Ambrosi. The production features sets and costumes by Vincenzo La Mendola, original music by Giovanni Zappalortoe, and choreography by Barbara Cacciato.
