Marsala hosts football tournament to promote social integration

The “African Union for Marsala Unity” football tournament is currently taking place at the Gaspare Umile field in Marsala, Italy. Organized by a group of non-EU young residents in collaboration with the African Union in Marsala for Unity association and ASD Atletico Marsala, the event aims to promote social integration and community connection through sport.

Six teams are participating in the tournament, with the final scheduled for August 16 between Soccer Star and Kandog Beer. The initiative is supported by a network of local organizations, including L'Arca, Società Cooperativa Sociale Liberi di Intrecciare, Consorzio Umana Solidarietà, Cooperativa Aziza, Cooperativa San Vincenzo I, MDG Cooperativa Sociale ETS, and Associazione Gema.

Organizers, including Souwe Amadi, emphasize that the tournament's primary value lies in creating opportunities for relationship-building and social normalcy rather than competitive results, using football as a tool to combat prejudice and foster inclusion.
