Marsala sailors secure European J24 title and World Championship qualification

Italian sailors from Marsala achieved significant success in international sailing competitions. In Sweden, the J24 crew ‘La Superba’ from the Marina Militare won the 2026 J24 European Championship. The winning team included Ignazio Bonanno, Simone Scontrino, Francesco Linares, Francesco Picaro, and Alfredo Branciforte. The crew secured the title after winning four out of ten races, marking the third time the Marina Militare has won this continental title.

In a separate event held in Calasetta, Sardinia, Virna Di Gerlando of Circolo Velico Marsala qualified for the Golden Fleet at the Open Skiff Youth World Championship. Competing in the U17 category against 166 helmsmen from 13 nations, the thirteen-year-old secured her place among the elite group of top performers despite technical issues during the competition. Her sister, Igea, also competed, qualifying for the Silver Fleet.
