Marseille hosts Aflam Festival featuring Palestinian cinema
The 13th edition of the Aflam Festival will take place in various cinemas in Marseille from October 10 to 18, 2026. As part of the event, the Marseille Palestine Cinema Festival will host two sessions on October 13 and 14.
On October 14, director Kassem Hawal will be present for a screening of his documentary work. The program includes '1973', a film paying tribute to Palestinian writer and activist Ghassan Kanafani, and 'Palestinian Identity', which examines the destruction of Palestinian culture and collective memory during the 1982 Israeli invasion of Beirut. Additionally, the program features a fragment of 'Why we plant flowers, why we carry weapons', a political documentary from Hawal's early years that was long considered lost after being stolen during the invasion of Beirut.
