Marsh deer released into Argentine national park after recovery
A male marsh deer has been released into the Ciervo de los Pantanos National Park after successfully recovering from injuries sustained in a vehicle collision on National Route 9 near Zárate.
The animal received veterinary care at the Fundación Temaikèn Veterinary Hospital. Following a clinical evaluation that confirmed the deer was healthy, specialists fitted it with a satellite tracking collar to monitor its movements, habitat use, and adaptation process within the wetlands.
The release was a collaborative effort involving the community, park rangers from the Ministry of Environment of the Province of Buenos Aires, veterinarians, and various public and conservation organizations. The marsh deer (Blastocerus dichotomus) is South America’s largest cervid and faces ongoing threats from habitat loss and road accidents.
