Marshall Faulk reveals Parkinson’s disease diagnosis

Pro Football Hall of Famer and Southern University head coach Marshall Faulk has revealed he was diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease approximately 18 months ago. Speaking on ‘The Caring Neurologist’ podcast with Dr. Sandeep Thakkar, the 53-year-old explained that he first noticed symptoms, specifically hand rigidity, while playing golf.

Faulk noted that he initially dismissed the stiffness as nerves related to putting, but the symptoms persisted even during non-competitive play. Following a routine physical, his doctor advised further neurological testing, which led to the diagnosis.

Faulk stated that medication has helped manage his symptoms, which include minor tremors and occasional stiffness, allowing him to maintain his normal routine and stay active. He described himself as ‘one of the lucky ones’ due to the early detection.

By sharing his diagnosis, Faulk aims to encourage others, particularly athletes, to prioritize regular health check-ups and seek medical evaluation at the first sign of symptoms. He compared managing the condition to the physical challenges he faced during his professional football career.
