Marsican brown bear conservation receives support in Abruzzo
Efforts to protect the rare Marsican brown bear in Italy's Abruzzo region are receiving support through both volunteer field work and corporate sponsorship. The association ‘Salviamo l’Orso’ is conducting active conservation in the Roveto Valley, focusing on monitoring, maintaining technical equipment like solar panels and electricators, and installing protection measures to prevent human-wildlife conflict.
These field operations are part of the ‘Defender of the Wild’ program. Additionally, the cooperative Cantina Tollo is supporting the Abruzzo, Lazio, and Molise National Park by funding the purchase and regeneration of satellite collars used for bear monitoring. This initiative is tied to a rebranding of the company’s ‘Animaletti’ organic wine line, using new label designs to raise awareness about biodiversity and the survival of the species.
