Marsican brown bear spotted near Roccaraso, Italy

A young male Marsican brown bear has been spotted several times in the Roccaraso area, specifically along the road leading toward Pietransieri in the Abruzzo region. Residents and visitors have reported sightings, with some videos of the animal circulating on social media.

The sightings have drawn significant local attention due to the memory of Juan Carrito, a well-known Marsican bear that became famous for entering residential areas before being killed by a vehicle in early 2023. While specific details regarding the new bear's movements are still being gathered, it is believed to be a young specimen of the Marsican subspecies, which is native to the central Apennines.
