Marta Bosquet proposed as new Andalusian Ombudsman

Marta Bosquet has been proposed as the new Andalusian Ombudsman, marking the first time a woman will lead the institution. The appointment was secured through a majority coalition of the People's Party (PP) and Vox in the Andalusian Parliament.

The PSOE has criticized the move, describing it as a “PP-Vox steamroller” and lamenting the lack of consensus with the opposition. Party spokesperson María Márquez questioned Bosquet’s social profile and legal experience in defending vulnerable populations, noting that Bosquet was part of the regional government until recently. The PSOE also expressed frustration that they learned of the appointment via social media and news reports rather than through official channels.

In contrast, the PP and Vox defended the selection, stating that Bosquet meets all legal and technical requirements. The PP highlighted her experience as a jurist and her knowledge of the Andalusian administration, while Vox argued that a background in party politics does not preclude independent work. The appointment will move to a plenary vote for final ratification next week.
