MARTA bus driver charged after falling asleep at the wheel
A MARTA bus driver faces charges of distracted driving and failure to maintain lane after falling asleep at the wheel on September 7, 2026, in Dunwoody, Georgia. The incident caused the bus to cross traffic lanes and strike a tree on N. Shallowford Road, which subsequently fell onto parked vehicles.
Three people were on board the bus at the time of the collision. The driver was transported to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, and two passengers also reported injuries. MARTA officials stated that the operator has been removed from service pending an exhaustive investigation, calling the incident ‘unacceptable’.
