Spain's media landscape shifts with production decentralization and new programming

Spain's audiovisual landscape is undergoing significant shifts in both production and programming. Production is decentralizing from Madrid and Barcelona, with the Canary Islands emerging as a major hub, hosting 180 productions in 2025 and generating 432 million euros.

In television programming, major networks Atresmedia and Mediaset are preparing for a new season with heavy coverage of the migration crisis in Ceuta. Atresmedia is deploying special daily editions of ‘El Objetivo’ and sending presenters like Susanna Griso to the region. Mediaset is also increasing its presence in Ceuta with journalists like Carlos Franganillo to interview local leadership.

Additionally, several networks are announcing new talent and series. Antena 3 is launching ‘Las hijas de la criada’, an adaptation of a bestselling novel, and ‘La Mesa’, a new prime-time program hosted by Cristina Pardo. Samantha Vallejo-Nágera is joining ‘Y ahora Sonsoles’ for a culinary section, and Marta Gómez Montero is moving from TVE to Antena 3’s ‘Espejo público’. Other personnel changes include Diego Arce succeeding his father, Roberto Arce, at Noticias Cuatro.
