Josep Pedrerol exits Atresmedia after 13 years, final 'El Chiringuito' set for July 20

Atresmedia confirmed that it and journalist Josep Pedrerol have ended their professional relationship by mutual agreement, bringing an arrangement that lasted more than 13 years to a close. The flagship sports‑talk show “El Chiringuito de Jugones” will air its final episode on 20 July 2026, a special broadcast following the FIFA World Cup 2026 final. At the same time, the daily program “Jugones”, which also belongs to Atresmedia, will remain on the network.

Pedrerol thanked the group for the editorial freedom he enjoyed, stating, “Han sido 13 años fantásticos en los que hemos trabajado con absoluta libertad.” Atresmedia’s director general echoed the sentiment, wishing him success in future projects. While no official destination was disclosed, multiple reports indicate that negotiations with Mediaset (Telecinco/Cuatro) are advanced, and the journalist’s production team is expected to move with him. The departure follows the expiry of Pedrerol’s contract and follows speculation about a possible move to TVE, but Mediaset is now seen as the most likely new home for the format.
