Marta Kostyuk upsets Iga Świątek to reach French Open quarterfinals

Ukrainian teenager Marta Kostyuk defeated world No. 3 Iga Świątek 7‑5, 6‑1 in the round of 16 at Roland Garros, advancing to her first French Open quarter‑final. The win ended Świątek’s best‑ever run at the venue, matching her earliest exit seven years ago.

Kostyuk, 23, said she was still “in shock after beating such an amazing player,” adding that she felt “the least lucky” before the match but capitalised on her strong clay‑court form. The victory extends her season streak on red clay to 15 consecutive wins, following titles in Madrid and earlier successes on the surface. She will face fellow Ukrainian Elena Svitolina in the next round.

Świątek, the 2020 French Open champion, struggled with her serve after an early break and could not recover, marking her poorest result at Roland Garros since her debut.
